The project will extend the relevance of these longitudinal files (NLSCY, NPHS, YITS, LSIC, SLID) by linking them to more recent outcome variables derived from Census/NHS and administrative data (tax and mortality, for example). The plan is to develop an "outcomes" file using Census and Tax data that can be linked with all longitudinal files. The variables on the "outcomes" file will include at a minimum: educational attainment, employment, income, mortality and geography.
The "outcomes" file will be developed using a probabilistic linkage based on name, sex, date of birth, and postal code in the Data Linkage unit in Health Statistics Division. The "outcomes" file will then be linked to each of the longitudinal files and a linkage key file will be separated and retained for potential future linkages. The project will start this spring and be completed in March 2015. The plan is to start the project with a number of consultations with subject matter division experts, academic, and government researchers to determine what variables should be included in the "outcomes" file.
