Metadata for selected Statistics Canada masterfiles have been added to the Nesstar server run by the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). The DLI provides researchers access to public data files and associated metadata. Provision of masterfile metadata will help researchers plan and apply for access to the RDC.
The Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) and Statistics Canada provide researchers with secure access to Statistics Canada social survey and administrative microdata. The RDC Metadata Project was initiated in 2008 and funded by a CFI grant produce DDI metadata for masterfiles found in the Research Data Centres (RDCs).
Through the on-line tool, NESSTAR, researchers will be able to view survey documentation, methodology and variable level information related to the Statcan…

Public Service Award of Excellence for Statistics Canada's RDC management team
Today, Statistics Canada's RDC management team was awarded the Treasury Board Secretariat "Public Service Award of Excellence" in the Innovation category.
Over the past 13 years, this team has worked to provide researchers with access to Statistics Canada's detailed microdata, a project that has changed the face of academic research in Canada. Other partners in this success include: the Canadian Research Data Centre Network, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. The official award presentation ceremony will take place at Rideau Hall this fall.

The CRDCN 2013 Conference will take place in Waterloo, Ontario on October 3&4, 2013, with preconference workshops on the 2nd.
This year's conference will focus on the importance of having access to high quality data for academic research and policy analysis. Sessions will demonstrate the range of policy relevant questions that researchers have been able to answer by analysing detailed microdata available through Research Data Centres.
